The Showbuild

Starting from scratch a group of anything up to 40 people are involved in the creation and performance of an original musical show. The Shows usually last around an hour and include anything up to a dozen original songs, choreographed dances/routines for all, devised and scripted story and dialogue and set pieces. Groups form new 'Companies' whose members are involved in the creation of characters and storylines as well as the writing of song lyrics and music. This is done through creating an atmosphere of hard work and enjoyment through theatre games, rhythm and movement exercises and story telling through writing and improvisation.

After making as much material as possible the ideas for story and theme are brought together with the songs. Once this is done groups can work together on details of how certain elements of the show might fit together - this is then put together and polished into a final production.

Classic Showbuild

Derived from the 5 day build, this model brings set texts and classic literature to life in a new and vibrant way.

Taking pre-written text (e.g A Midsummer Night's Dream) and re-writing for performance with a group of up to 40.
Essentially this is an adaptation exercise. During the course of the project participants will need to read, analyse and rework the story and subtext into a new piece they then perform. This can include updating, songwriting, introduction of new characters etc. and/or the distillation of the original into a series of dance pieces or songs for example. Inevitably this leads to a deeper understanding of the piece in question and a broadening of awareness of classics and style in general.
