Studio Composition
|
The use of the recording studio as a composition tool: sampling, digital editing, crafting of pre-recorded material and the creative use of state-of-the-art technology all explained with a view to creating original sounds and compositions.

Duration of project: Time should be allowed for groups to consider coaching input. Once the introduction of the sound possibilities has been made, crafting time is needed. An ideal package might be a rota of participants across 1 - 2 weeks (possibly with a week or two in between), accepting the need for them to be able to get together between sessions (at least three - the equivalent to a studio day).

Studio Coaching

Projects that illustrate through practice the rigours and discipline required for a career as a "session" player. Irrespective of instrument or voice this work is often seen as "bread and butter" provide. The skill and attitude required to succeed in this line of the music profession is, however, far from casual. There is also some romance attached to the idea of being a session player and recording artist - these courses and session workshops could serve to dissipate such attitudes and illustrate how disciplined, as well as fulfilling, the work can be. Sessions would concentrate on the ensemble, accompaniment, instrumental and technological skills required to produce pre-written and rehearsed material and less and less on composition and solo singing.

Number of participants: any sized ensemble up to full orchestra and choir plus up to six student sound engineers.

Duration of project: variable according to work recorded.

Live Sound

Training on the skills of live sound production and reinforcement. Handling a P.A. system/responding to acoustic requirements of different spaces/setting up for the best live sound - also selected taster sessions on specific equipment, e.g. the recording desk, use of effects units, computer software, editing etc.

Number of participants: up to 20.

Duration of project: Minimum of 1 day.

NB: On most occassions Actiontrack will produce a maximum of two "master" CDs / tapes as negotiated. The pressing of these to the number required will be negotiated and built into the cost of projects invariably offset against sales.
